Summary: The Journeyman Electrician will be supporting and working on electrical installations. Installations may include new construction, EV charging, renovation & lighting systems. General electrical work and troubleshooting is required.

  •  Must keep safety a priority and follow all company and regulatory safety requirements.
  •  Planning, assigning, scheduling, and supervising the work of apprentice electricians engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of lighting and electrical systems in efficient, safe, and cost-effective methods.
  •  Oversee, direct and control materials, supplies, and equipment distribution at job site to obtain optimal efficiency of operations and to prevent damage or waste.
  • Track and report on all production hours of crew and material usage on a weekly basis, at job completion, or as requested by management.
  • Train, instruct and oversee apprentice electricians.
  • Develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with other co-workers and customers.
  • Lay out and install light fixtures, circuitry, conduit, and control systems.
  • Ensure that all equipment and tools under your supervision are handled in a safe, secure, efficient, and cost-effective manner at all times to prevent abuse and protect the company from loss.
  • Be aware of and ensure that all employees under your supervision are aware of and in compliance with all company policies and procedures including safety and/or governmental agencies policies and regulations.
  • Ensure that all paperwork regarding costs of the job are recorded and reported to the Project Manager in a proper, correct, and timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Relationships: Leads and provides direction to electrical crew at job site.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Licensed in the State of MN as a Journeyman Electrician
  • Four years electrical experience or completed coursework at a trade school preferred.
  • Current Driver’s License

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to communicate with employees and managers effectively.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be in good general health and have a full range of bodily motion as much walking, lifting, reaching, carrying, bending, handling, and grasping are daily requirements of the job. Lifting, carrying, and/or moving materials, supplies and/or equipment weighing more than 50 lbs will be a regular requirement of the job.
  • Must have good vision, be able to distinguish color and possess the ability to adjust focus, as the physical demands of the job require much work with colored wiring and both close and arm length installations.
  • Ability to travel to other work facilities.

Apprentice Electrician – Metro

As an apprentice working for Retrofit Electric, you’ll work as part of a project crew to install commercial and industrial projects in Southern MN and the Twin Cities Metro area and be part of our thriving, Woman-Owned Small Business. We offer paid training, 401K, PTO, Per Diem for Travel outside your assigned territory. This position will work in the Twin Cities, metro area and will report to the Field Supervisor.

The Apprentice Electrician will be working on electrical installations under the guidance of a Journeyman Electrician. General electrical work and troubleshooting is required. 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Must keep safety a priority and follow all company and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Must have general knowledge of electrical installations and systems.
  • Must be able to lay out and install lighting systems, circuitry, conduit and control systems.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with other employees of the company, supervisors and customers.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to safely and correctly use electrical tools, hand tools, aerial lifts, scaffolds and ladders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Willingness to attend classes as scheduled by Retrofit Electric to gain knowledge and progress towards journeyman license.

 Qualification Requirements:

  • State Unlicensed Registered Electrician
  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance policy.

 Education and/or Experience:

Two years electrical experience or completed coursework at a trade school preferred.

    • Electrical installation experience is a plus.

Language Skills:

  • Must be able to read, write and speak well in the English Language and have the ability to communicate clearly with management, general contractors, construction managers, customers and departmental employees. Must be able to receive instructions.  Must be able to perform basic math functions at a high school level.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly in order to communicate effectively on the telephone and face-to-face with co-workers and superiors.

As an entry-level position, this role can serve as the foundation for a promising career with room for growth and expansion.  The position will primarily be working as a general laborer, sorting/packaging, loading/unloading trucks in the warehouse but will also be driving as a back-up when needed.  As a back-up driver, a commercial driver’s license will be required; however, if you are a hard worker with a strong work ethic and do not have a CDL, Retrofit will train and pay for schooling required to obtain a commercial license.
