THERMAL IMAGING
THERMAL IMAGING

Prevent Catastrophe. Maximize Uptime.

Identify invisible hazards—loose connections, overloaded circuits, and faulty components—before they cause costly downtime, safety incidents, or catastrophic failure. Our certified thermographers provide the insight you need to act, not react.

WHAT IS THERMAL IMAGING FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS?

Thermal imaging (infrared thermography) is a non-invasive, predictive maintenance technology that is revolutionizing electrical inspections.

Seeing the Unseen

Thermal cameras detect the infrared radiation (heat) emitted by electrical components, creating a color-coded "heat map." Excessive heat is the primary indicator of resistance caused by problems like loose connections or component wear.

Non-Invasive Diagnostics

Inspections are performed while your electrical systems are energized and under load. This non-contact approach allows certified thermographers to safely diagnose issues in real-time without costly and disruptive power shutdowns.

KEY PROBLEM DETECTION

We quickly identify specific thermal anomalies indicating:

  • Loose connections and high resistance.

  • Overloaded or imbalanced circuits.

  • Worn-out breaker contacts or damaged components.

  • Arcing and motor winding faults.

NFPA 70B: Mandatory Compliance for Safety

The Standard Has Changed (2023 Edition)

The NFPA 70B Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance, formerly a recommended practice, is now a mandatory standard as of the 2023 edition. This shift from "should" to "shall" requires commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities to establish and implement comprehensive Electrical Maintenance Programs (EMP).

Compliance is essential to prevent equipment failure, ensure worker safety (in conjunction with NFPA 70E), and avoid potential accountability from Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

Required Inspection Frequency

NFPA 70B mandates frequent evaluations, with thermal imaging being a key required testing method:

  • All Electrical Equipment: Inspection of all equipment is required at least every 12 months.
  • Condition 3 Equipment: Equipment classified under "Equipment Physical Condition 3" (urgent action needed or recurring issues) requires thermographic inspection at least every 6 months.

WHO SHOULD BE INSPECTED?

Any facility that relies on continuous operation, critical power, or complex electrical infrastructure should implement a thermal imaging program to ensure NFPA 70B compliance and operational integrity:

  • Manufacturing & Industrial Plants

  • Data Centers & Telecom Facilities

  • Hospitals & Healthcare Facilities

  • Commercial Office Buildings

  • Large Multi-Family Residential Complexes

  • Schools & Universities

  • Water Treatment Facilities

  • Retail & Cold Storage Facilities

EXPECTED BENEFITS OF PROACTIVE MAINTENANCE

Implementing a regular thermal inspection schedule provides significant returns on investment far beyond simple compliance:

Benefit Category

Description

Eliminate Downtime

Predict and repair potential failures during planned maintenance windows, avoiding unplanned, costly emergency shutdowns that disrupt productivity.

Enhance Safety & Compliance

Minimize the risk of electrical fires and hazards. Provide visual, documented proof of system integrity required for NFPA 70B and insurance purposes.

Extend Equipment Life

By identifying and addressing hotspots (excessive heat), you reduce component stress, significantly extending the operational lifespan of expensive electrical gear.

Improve Energy Efficiency

High resistance generates wasted heat. Eliminating these inefficiencies reduces energy consumption and lowers overall utility costs.

WHY HIRE RETROFIT ELECTRIC? THE CERTIFIED DIFFERENCE:

Certification Matters

Thermal imaging is not a "point-and-shoot" technology. Accurate diagnosis requires specialized certification from a recognized body.

Our ITC Certified Thermographers have the training to:

  • Accurately interpret heat patterns (thermograms).

  • Differentiate between true faults and false readings.

  • Ensure safety while inspecting live equipment.

  • Provide reliable, defensible reports for compliance.

Beyond the Scan: Actionable Plans

Retrofit Electric provides more than just a report—we deliver a comprehensive, actionable solution:

  1. Rapid Insight: Licensed thermographers provide valuable insight quickly, reducing diagnostic time.

  2. Prioritized Reporting: You receive a detailed report with severity ratings, guiding your repair decisions.

  3. Seamless Remediation: We develop proactive plans and perform the necessary electrical work before issues escalate, ensuring the highest standards of repair effectiveness.

Don't Wait for Failure. Minimize power interruptions, reduce diagnostic time, and get the preventative work done right.
